The school was opened on 1st May 1912 by Lady Ernestine Edgcumbe and, being on top of a hill where four lanes met, was known as
There have been many improvements and changes since those days. The latest improvements saw new purpose built Key Stage 1 toilets, two resource rooms and a staff room. New windows, better lighting, a refurbished library, extensive curriculum resources along with interactive whiteboards in all classes, have brought the school right up to date.
Visitors to the school enter through the main door and report to reception where they are required to sign our visitors? book. We have an airlock security door system in this area, enabling monitoring of all who enter. The building is protected by an alarm system which is monitored by a security guard service.
The Ethos of the School
The school encourages each child to realise their full potential by the provision of a caring, ordered and happy environment; an environment conducive to spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development regardless of age, gender, race, creed or exceptional needs.
The school believes that it has a duty to foster qualities of character such as conscientiousness, independence, self-confidence, honesty and consideration for others.
We endeavour to keep fair, consistent discipline with positive reinforcement through praise and encouragement.
